Because I write about relationships, I’ve done online dating, and I am after all called Sip and Go Girl, my attention was piqued when I saw my friend and former co-worker Robert posting something on Facebook about the website OK Cupid, which is where he met the gal he has been dating for five weeks.
“I just got a message from OK Cupid, yes…the dating site, asking me to be a moderator. Meaning whenever someone reports someone else’s profile for being phony, obscene, etc. I would get to investigate it. Could be interesting. Their disclaimer said, ‘This is not for the faint of heart. If you’ve never seen an R rated movie, you might want to pass.'”
His friends were encouraging him to take on the new gig. It was a responsibility that wouldn’t bring Robert any cash, but as a woman named Christie told him, “This has the potential of comedic gold. Do it! You would be a ‘Cupid Cop.'”
Others agreed with enthusiasm saying “Do it if only for the stories to share” and that the whole thing “sounds too interesting to ignore!”
I was totally into the possibility of dramatic website gold. I couldn’t wait to hear what the new “Cupid Cop” would discover about the inner workings of dating.
It seems there ain’t much there.
“Well so far it’s pretty tame. One guy got flagged because his profile photo is of the Alfa Romeo logo. Lame and douchey! Plus you’re not supposed to post photos that aren’t of yourself. No pets, scenery, etc. There was also a profile that was flagged because it was obviously for a couple that was looking for a threesome. Plus some guy got flagged because he sent a girl a message that just said, ‘Bewbz!’ Wow! It’s amazing how many guys like to post photos of their junk. Not sure this moderating thing is for me!”
Robert’s buddy Paul asked “Do the girls also post pics of their junk?”
“Not really no,” Robert responded. “The most I saw from any women was shots of their boobs, but with a bra or bikini top on. Nothing naked.”
It doesn’t look like there’s much comedic gold going on behind the scenes at OK Cupid.
I talked to Robert about his gig. He says he did indeed see a lot of pics of erect penises. “It’s really amazing that guys think it’s ok to post that stuff.”
It also seems, he says, that some guys “got really nasty with lots of bad language when a girl didn’t respond to his messages.”
Robert has given up the role.
“I’ve actually stopped the moderator thing. It was weird. Stuff was either boring or gross. I got bored pretty quick. Plus I didn’t want the girl I’m dating to think I’m still active on there.”
Yes, I’d rather hear more about the girl you’re dating.
Lol! Nice job!
Now THAT’S funny! LOL! 🙂
