Paul Ryan is a snuggler.

It doesn’t matter which way you lean politically or who you voted for November 6.

Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan is a snuggler. I can just tell. I’ve been a snuggler all my life and gosh darn it I know a snuggler when I see him. Or her.

My mother used to have two small ceramic figurines that she set on the windowsill above her kitchen sink. One figure was a bird. It represented my sister because my sister’s nickname is Tweety Bird. She was born with a big head and little body.

The other figure was a bunny rabbit. That was me because I was a Snuggle Bunny. I liked to cuddle up with my mother when I was little. Well apparently little has changed in a few decades. I still like to snuggle. The desire grows in times of trial and tribulation. Translation? When things are kind of sucky, I need the snuggle. And never underestimate the importance of snuggling with your friends and family.

I was having a rough few days earlier this summer

and was talking to my friend Justin.

I sat in a chair and poured out my week in a tumble of emotions, draped like a wet mop head over the wood and tile table.

“My life sucks right now.” Suddenly I said, “Hey…..would you ever snuggle with me??” It was slightly uncharacteristic of me to fling my snuggle-bility around like that. It’s usually something only a few folks know about me.

He looked at me in horror. “No. No. Uh no. No.” He looked like he wanted to flee at top speed from the room, the building, and possibly the city.

Apparently not everyone is into that.

“Snuggling” does not mean something sexual by the way. It can be something as simple as curling up next to someone on a couch or even a floor. The placing of your head on the person’s shoulder is optional. Naturally, the more the person means to you the closer the snuggle can be. My friend Steve snuggles with his youngest son. My sister– Tweety Bird– snuggles with her dog Sarah Jessica.

Anyhow, last month I was reading Time magazine’s presidential election coverage and realized with shock that…..Paul Ryan looks like a snuggler! Yes he does. Mitt Romney does NOT. Barack Obama does. Joe Biden does NOT.
