Your New Year’s Relationship Resolutions

Happy New Year!

A couple days ago I went to Facebook, email, and here on the Sip and Go Girl website to ask you what you resolve to do with your relationships in 2013.

Here’s what you said you plan for your relationships in 2013.

Erin says, “Prioritizing! Keeping in perspective what really matters. Life is too short to worry about the unimportant.”

Taking A Dating Hiatus

When my ex Steve and I parted ways officially and legally, he told me that I wouldn’t be alone for long. “You’re quite a catch,” he said.

That was nearly three years ago. I’ve been busy dating and had two boyfriends in that time. But I am going on hiatus.

What does that mean?

That means Sip and Go Girl has stopped dating. » Read more..

Looking For A Girlfriend? Get A Billboard

****UPDATE! Vandals ripped apart the billboard and now it has been removed. Better luck next time, Marc!

A man in San Diego is looking for holiday love and skipping the online dating scene to find it.

The Arizona Republic says 63-year-old Marc Paskin set up this billboard. It reads “All I Want for Christmas is a Latina Girlfriend.” His photo and email address are also on the billboard.

It’s a little creepy but he’s not the only man who desperately wishes for someone to share the romantic magic of the holiday season. I admire his ability to be proactive rather than mope. But it’s still a little creepy.

Never Leave A Diver Behind

Loss can lead to an up-and-down battle with our emotions.

The painful feelings can be tied to situations as varied as the death of a parent, loss of a job, divorce, end of a friendship, or even a move to another state.

But one of the beautiful things about loss is that it reminds us of the solid relationships we have and the communities we share.

The following story ran during the December 24, 2012 10p.m. newscast on KVOA News 4 Tucson, the NBC television affiliate.

Tales From Sip And Go Girl: “Micah”

Sometimes, I’m obviously not number one on a guy’s list of “ladies he wants to date” or even hang out with. That was the case with Micah.

Micah was the first fella I agreed to meet in person after I started online dating. He played racquet sports like squash and tennis. He ran his own company helping students prepare for standardized tests like the SAT.

We arranged to meet at a gelato place because he had been cute and flirty with me and joked I could have the little cookie that comes with the gelato.

No cookie for you Sip and Go Girl

The day before we were to meet, Micah sent me an email through the website.

He apologized and said he had to cancel because he was going out of town on business. He made no mention of meeting up again.

Live As If It Were Your Last Day

23-year-old Ashley was a self-described “complete and total dork.” She liked school and wanted a career in environmental science. She was an avid scuba diver and like many divers in southern Arizona, she loved the waters of San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico.

18-year-old Monique was described by her cousin Sara as one of the most beautiful people she had ever known. The teenager’s first name was the middle name of her beloved aunt Elisa. Photos of her reveal a fun-loving but serious young woman clad in wacky big sunglasses or posing with arms wrapped around her younger sister Mary or her mother Shell.

Fixin’ To Fix People

My friend and fellow journalist Steve sent me a link to an article from match.com. The title?

Why “fixing” a man won’t make him love you.

I don’t know if he was accusing me of being a person who wants to “fix” people in order to make them love me or if he thought the article would be interesting for me because of the work I’m doing as Sip and Go Girl.

The Pursuit Of Chemistry

While I was an undergraduate earning my bachelors degree in journalism, I interned at an organization designed to assist journalists and others with their First Amendment– aka U.S. Constitutional freedom of speech– rights.

After my internship finished at the end of the summer, one of the two employees at the organization asked me out. I said okay. Mark and I had our date at an Italian restaurant named Strings.

At the end of the night he asked me if I wanted to go out with him again and if I liked him. Yes, Mark asked me directly, “Are you interested in me?”

A Date Means Wearing Lipstick

When I was in high school, Dennis asked me to go to the Beach Boys concert. It was 1988 and the band was touring to promote its new album. This was the album with the song Kokomo from the movie Cocktail.

I was wearing white loafer type shoes, jeans, and a peach sweater. My hair was as it always was in 1988. I did nothing more than wash it, comb it, and let it dry naturally. I did not use hair product beyond a tiny bit of mousse and I certainly hardly ever wore makeup.
