I’m a planner. I always have been. It seems to be encoded in my DNA to want to know what’s going to happen, when it’s going to happen, who will be there, how I’ll handle it and oh by the way, what should I wear just in case the weather changes too.
Always wanting to be so well-prepared for whatever life wants to throw at me is a blessing and a curse. In my professional life, being prepared and planning ahead has lead to some amazing opportunities that I may not have had otherwise.
However when it comes to relationships, all that forward-thinking can be enough to drive you and your partner crazy. I’m trying to tame my wild planning ways. I’m learning to trust that things really do happen for a reason, to reflect on how far I’ve come and to have faith in my own strength and ability to thrive. That’s despite whatever challenges may come my way.
Kind of makes me think of the crazy weather in Arizona sometimes. That’s where I live. One minute it can be chilly with a slight wind but the next minute it can be SNOWING!
So, one time it snowed, I got out of the vehicle and unleashed my inner child. I picked it up and played in it. Yes, I did the whole bit. I wasn’t dressed for snow and cold, thus within minutes I was soaking wet, my car was a mess, and I was late for an appointment.
But it was a blast and a nice reminder that sometimes the most unexpected events can end up being the most rewarding.
