Love The Enemy

People are always in need of something. Sometimes they’re friends, enemies, or strangers. Some people might be grateful and appreciative, but others just expect it and maybe don’t appreciate the gesture. Sometimes it’s hard to not receive anything back whether it be a physical gift or just a “thank you”.

Just A Warning: Jealous People Might Contact You

My ex-boyfriend John has friended and unfriended me many times on Facebook. Thus, I wasn’t shocked when he unfriended me again recently. I just rolled my eyes and shook my head.

Then I received a personal message from him:

[Unfriending you] was for your own protection. Seriously. The woman. She began to show a very mean, possessive and jealous streak and has begun contacting FB friends. You and about six other females were deleted. Nothing personal. All passwords have been changed just in case. So fed up with dating.

One might find this terribly dramatic and shocking except this is not the first time I have been warned by a man about the possibility of a woman contacting me.

Who's calling? A jealous person.

Who’s calling? A jealous person.

He’s Just Too Into You

You’ve heard the phrase “he’s just not that into you.”

I argue a guy can avoid you because he once was too into you.

At least twice recently, I had conversations with women about men from their pasts. In both cases my two friends knew the men from workplaces, were close friends or at least kind of fooled around with them, had lost touch over the years, and had slightly reconnected via Facebook

But both female friends said roughly the same thing to me.

“He doesn’t show any interest in maintaining the friendship we used to have.”

My response to both of the women is “He was too into you.”

Who Checks On You?

Demi Lovato is young enough to be my daughter. But she’s old enough to remind me what it means to have friends.

The 20-year-old is a singer and actor best known for the Disney Channel show Sonny With A Chance.

Yes, I have watched it and yes I have laughed. I also like the theme song and the way Lovato screams at the end of the intro and elbows the show’s logo.

Lovato recently said she thought she had loads of friends but when she checked her cell phone during a time of woe, there were few “missed calls” and few text messages.

She learned who actually cared about her after she spent some time in rehab.

Blinded By Love

Have you ever noticed that when you start to really like someone–maybe even start to love them– they become more attractive?

At first you probably think he or she is cute with a pleasant demeanor and a few similar interests. Give it a few more months and suddenly your new partner is a physical specimen of perfection, with the “perfect” personality and hobbies that have now become your hobbies too.

It’s not unusual for people to idealize their significant others, and they often don’t realize they’re doing it until that relationship is finished.

A Date Means Wearing Lipstick

When I was in high school, Dennis asked me to go to the Beach Boys concert. It was 1988 and the band was touring to promote its new album. This was the album with the song Kokomo from the movie Cocktail.

I was wearing white loafer type shoes, jeans, and a peach sweater. My hair was as it always was in 1988. I did nothing more than wash it, comb it, and let it dry naturally. I did not use hair product beyond a tiny bit of mousse and I certainly hardly ever wore makeup.

Can You Be Friends For Now?

Why is it that when we like somebody and there is no possible way to be together, we still allow ourselves to think there is a chance?

I know it is our instinct to love and be loved, but why can’t we just take control of our mind and do the right thing?

I most certainly have fallen victim to giving too much time and effort to the wrong people and since then, I have chosen to never again invest my time into those who don’t invest back.

Wait. Who Is That Person (on Facebook)?

I’m on Facebook and have 520 friends.

On The DL has 737.

Wild One has 489.

High Hopes has 478.

Facebook is a busy place. And it lends a whole new dimension to relationships.

No, I’m not talking about Facebook as a dating site. Despite what my friend Gary says, the social media giant is not the new single’s scene.

Okay Gary might be kind of right. A 2008 Pew Internet and American Life Project shows one in five adults use Facebook for flirting.

Making A Move

By: So It Goes

In the game of chess, you are taught to constantly examine the entire board in an effort to see two, three, five, ten moves ahead. This might work for chess but in the game of love and advice, we forget that we sometimes have to look ahead and see if our well-meaning advice can in any way be used to checkmate ourselves.

I have a friend named Bill.
