Just A Warning: Jealous People Might Contact You

My ex-boyfriend John has friended and unfriended me many times on Facebook. Thus, I wasn’t shocked when he unfriended me again recently. I just rolled my eyes and shook my head.

Then I received a personal message from him:

[Unfriending you] was for your own protection. Seriously. The woman. She began to show a very mean, possessive and jealous streak and has begun contacting FB friends. You and about six other females were deleted. Nothing personal. All passwords have been changed just in case. So fed up with dating.

One might find this terribly dramatic and shocking except this is not the first time I have been warned by a man about the possibility of a woman contacting me.

Who's calling? A jealous person.

You’re Acting CRAZY

We’ve all been in a stituation when we react in a dramatic way that’s out of character a little for us.

Last year, I was packed and ready to go for a long weekend of scuba diving in Mexico. My friend Randy–who’s also a diver– was picking me up at my place at O’Dark Thirty to drive me to the scuba diving store. That’s where we would meet with the rest of the divers caravaning during the drive to the Sea of Cortez.

I had placed my iPod on my little tabletop stereo to charge overnight.

Although I don’t use the MP3 player often, I absolutely love and adore it for the boat rides out to the island. I watch the just-risen sun kiss the tips of the cliffs around the marina. The birds skim the surface of the ocean as the crew churns the Newton ’48 through the water. The air is clear and fresh. I take all this in while being lost in my music. It’s a religious experience that allows me the chance to meditate over where I’ve been, where I am, and where I am going.

Yeah Yeah Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

My ex owned the book called “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff.”

I flipped through the pages of Richard Carlson’s book once or twice and read some nice advice including “Remember that when you die your in-box won’t be empty” and “Become more patient.” But I never considered myself a person who sweated the small stuff and thus I really didn’t dig into the book with gusto.

Turns out, though, that when facing certain trials I am indeed one of those people who sweats the small stuff.

It’s My Birthday And I’ll Be Happy If I Want To

The last two years, I have had special birthdays. In 2011, the celebration lasted two weeks. I received a surprise party, a work party, cards and gifts including a scuba dive tool (aka knife I strap to my leg like a pirate). Later that month there was a huge birthday dinner during a scuba dive trip. Then on the boat, my fellow divers dumped chocolate syrup and masa flour over my head. I smelled DELICIOUS.

Last year, my sister Renee’ and her husband Eric took me to Las Vegas for dancing, ziplines, yummy food, and good times.

This year, I had nothing planned. And the best thing was that I didn’t care. In the past, I would have been sad and lonely about that fact. I would have taken my lack of plans as a sign that no one cared.

Oh how silly of me to think that. I realize now the only person responsible for me is me.

Never Leave A Diver Behind

Loss can lead to an up-and-down battle with our emotions.

The painful feelings can be tied to situations as varied as the death of a parent, loss of a job, divorce, end of a friendship, or even a move to another state.

But one of the beautiful things about loss is that it reminds us of the solid relationships we have and the communities we share.

The following story ran during the December 24, 2012 10p.m. newscast on KVOA News 4 Tucson, the NBC television affiliate.
