Just A Warning: Jealous People Might Contact You

My ex-boyfriend John has friended and unfriended me many times on Facebook. Thus, I wasn’t shocked when he unfriended me again recently. I just rolled my eyes and shook my head.

Then I received a personal message from him:

[Unfriending you] was for your own protection. Seriously. The woman. She began to show a very mean, possessive and jealous streak and has begun contacting FB friends. You and about six other females were deleted. Nothing personal. All passwords have been changed just in case. So fed up with dating.

One might find this terribly dramatic and shocking except this is not the first time I have been warned by a man about the possibility of a woman contacting me.

Working With (Pretty) Girls

Sometimes it’s just plain awkward working with a member of the opposite sex.

I work closely with a woman who’s married, has a couple of kids, and physically is a knockout. We’ve been working together for more than one year. It’s going well. We have a healthy respect for each other, play off each other’s strengths, and people appreciate the product we produce.

She’s a hard-worker, mature, kind-hearted, fun, funny, and highly-skilled. Did I mention she’s also very cute? It can be a distraction. To keep things clean and professional between us, I more or less treat her like she’s a guy.

Therein likes the problem. She’s not a guy. Sometimes I find myself overcompensating to prove there’s nothing between us.

According to national surveys, 25% of women and 30% of men regard violence as normal in romantic relationships.

Why do people think violence is ordinary?

Some academics and observers blame media. TV (including news) and movies invite people to accept violence as a natural and inevitable feature in the daily lives of women. Danger lurks in the form of a date rape drug and the streets are full of males who randomly kill females.

The message is that women need to self-regulate if they’re to avoid becoming victims of violent crimes. If there’s anger or hate against them, they must be at fault and thus have to responsible for protecting themselves right? Women are the ones expected to be the change agents.

One morning I was watching NBC’s Today Show and there was a story about an Olympic gold medal skeet shooter. A friend of mine said, “There’s nothing hotter than a woman firing off a weapon.” And it made me think…….

I used to go camping on the San Francisco River in eastern Arizona. One of our traditional events was trap and skeet. We used to follow a dirt path to a high bank of the river where we would throw and shoot clay targets across it. It was a game. The 20 gauge shotgun held three shells. You got three chances to hit your target. The loser had to carry the launcher back and it wasn’t easy. It was a metal thrower mounted on a tire.
